Here's how it works. Each week, I send them a new chapter by email. They read it and most of the time, they will reply with comments every chapter or every few chapters. Keep in mind that I'm sending them THE ROUGH DRAFT of what I'm writing so I know that sometimes what they are reading is patchwork and that can't be easy at all.
The whole purpose of this is to gauge whether the story is making sense, whether it's interesting, whether it's moving along in a timely fashion, and other factors. Not only does this give me valuable feed back which I keep in mind for rewrites and revising, but it also kicks my butt in gear to continue the story. I don't want to leave them hanging. Nor do I want them turning against me in angry mob fashion when they expect to see how the story turns out.
I have a variety of test readers from a writer, to a radio announcer, to a student, and more. Some have liked the story, some aren't sure yet, and some don't. It's all good.
I just want to give a big hearty thank you to those readers. Not everyone would be so willing to get one chapter at a time of a novel over several weeks. Y'all will never know how much I appreciate what you do for me. If it weren't for you, I probably wouldn't be as determined to finish it as I am.
Thank you and great big hugs to each of you,
